Top four reasons to eat chocolate this Easter

Happy Easter everyone! We hope you are all enjoying the long weekend, although perhaps you are feeling a tad guilty if you’ve over indulged on the chocolate…
Luckily, it’s not all bad news. Here are four reasons why you don’t have to feel so guilty:
1. Chocolate is a great source of antioxidants. Dark chocolate contains various antioxidants including flavonols. Raw unprocessed cocoa beans are among the highest containing foods.
2. Chocolate IS nutritious – 100g of dark chocolate with 70-85% cocoa contains: 67% of the RDA for Iron, 58% of the RDA for Magnesium, 89% of the RDA for Copper, 98% of the RDA for Manganese, as well as containing potassium, phosphorus, zinc and selenium.
3. Chocolate makes you feel good. Eating chocolate can increase serotonin levels, which can be beneficial to improving mood.
4. Chocolate can help protect your skin. Summer is fast approaching and the flavonols can protect against sun damage, whilst improving blood flow to the skin, and increased hydration.
All of the above points however were taken from studies based on good quality organic dark chocolate, containing at least 70% cocoa . In general the darker the chocolate, the less sugar it contains too. We don't advise a diet solely based on cocoa but a little could help.
